Who We Are & What We Do

A-major Music celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009.  The store, owned by Joellen Dooley and Marion Osenga, has been at its current location in Gurnee since moving from Waukegan in 1989.

Having been serving the public for so long, we are able to offer our customers a staff that is well trained and very knowledgeable in the music world.  In doing so, we can help not only the professional musician, but enable the beginner to find his or her own musical voice.

We do this by offering both sales and rentals of band and string instruments as well as guitars and basses.  We provide rental instruments to many local school music programs including Waukegan, Beach Park, Zion, North Chicago, and Gurnee.  We also have in-house repairs for the instruments we sell and rent.

It is rewarding to us to see children grow up and be able to pursue these musical interests as they age.  We have been excited to help produce many prominent musicians - both locally and nationally - over the years.

One of the many ways in which we have accomplished this is through our private lesson program.  We offer a wide selection of teachers, a majority of whom have music degrees in their chosen instrument.  This includes lessons for piano, violin, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and guitar.  We have lessons available every day we are open with times that are convenient for both students and parents.

Our goal here is simple:  We try to help each person that comes through our door develop a talent that will last them a lifetime.
